HC Deb 03 November 1980 vol 991 c409W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Minister for the Civil Service if he will take action to discourage the re-use of official envelopes, in view of the fact that once these have passed through electronic sorting equipment their re-use will jam the machine; and whether he is satisfied that the general public are aware of this problem.

Mr. Channon

Government Departments are aware of this possibility and the use of gummed labels is being reduced as part of the planned change to public posting methods. The subject is dealt with in the Post Office Guide, page 86 of the October 1979 edition. The guide is available to members of the public.
