asked the Secretary of State for the Environment by what numbers and percentage his Department has reduced its establishment of non-industrial, non-scientific civil servants since May 1979.

Between 1 May 1979 and 1 October 1980 the reduction in the number of non-industrial, non-scientific civil servants was 1,855, or 6.4 per cent.
