The total cost of the Food Standards Committee for the latest financial year, 1979–80, was £5,300. This figure excludes the departmental administration costs as these would have been incurred whether the committee existed or not. The committee comprises a chairman and nine members who receive a fee for attendance, with secretarial support which varies depending upon the number and complexity of reviews under consideration. The committee does not disburse any moneys.
