asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (i) how many patients were removed under Section 90 of the Mental Health Act 1959 (as amended by Section 30 of the Immigration Act 1971) in 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979 and what were the countries to which the patients were removed 1891 in the cases of those removals which took place after 31st October 1976;
  2. (ii) how many families and individuals received funds towards their voluntary repatriation under Section 29 of the Immigration Act 1971 in each year from 1973 onwards, and what were the countries to which they returned; and
  3. (iii) how many families and individuals received funds towards their voluntary repatriation from the Supplementary Benefits Commission in each year from 1973 onwards, and

The information is as follows:

(i) In 1976 there was a total of eight removals under Section 90 of the Mental Health 1959 and one removal under Section 82 of the Mental Health (Scotland) Act 1960. The countries to which the patients were removed under Section 90 of the Mental Health Act 1959 from 1st November 1976 to 31st December 1979 were as follows:
