Mr. George Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much his Department has paid to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents for each of the last four years; and if he will provide a breakdown of the figures.

Grants are paid to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents in respect of its road and home safety functions in Scotland. The sums paid during the last four financial years are as follows:

The grant covers the salaries and administrative costs of the Scottish Director and his five staff. ROSPA's Scottish Office engages in publicity and promotion work; organising the child cyclists proficiency scheme; and servicing the Scottish Accident Prevention Council. A breakdown of the costs of each of these activities is not available.
