§ Mr. Peter WalkerThe cost of training both industrial and non-industrial staff in my Department in the year ended 31 July 1979 was approximately £3 million. This includes all training given to staff within the Department, at the Civil Service college, or externally, and covers direct expenditure on training—mainly fees for external courses—staff time, accommodation and equipment and expenditure on travelling and subsistence.
