Education and Training Costs

Mr. Colvin

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what is his estimate of the total annual cost of education and training undertaken by his Department.

Mr. Channon

The estimated annual cost in 1980–81 of education and training by the Civil Service Department (CSD) is as follows:

1. The Civil Service College	£5,438,000
2. Central Civil Service Training Policy	£409,000
3. Training of Civil Service Department staff	£992,000

The Civil Service college provides central training facilities for the whole Civil Service and its costs are attributable proportionately to all central Government Departments. CSD is also responsible for central Civil Service training policy. Item 3 includes the basic staff costs of the students.
