§ Mr. Bestasked the Secretary of State for Wales what facilities exist in Wales for teaching physically and mentally handicapped children; and what are his proposals for the future.
§ Mr. Michael RobertsThere are 75 special schools in Wales which cater specifically for the educational needs of physically and mentally handicapped children. In addition, many handicapped children are taught in special units and ordinary classes in primary and secondary schools. The Government's current112W expenditure plans provide for the maintenance of expenditure on special education at its present level despite the fall in the size of the relevant age groups. As to the future, I refer my hon. Friend to the statement made in the House on 3 March by my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he announced the Government's response to the Warnock report.—[Vol. 980, c. 42–3.]
