HC Deb 24 March 1980 vol 981 cc435-6W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether the Ramoan centre at Ballycastle has forerunners elsewhere in the United Kingdom; and if he has made arrangements for experience gained at that centre in the treatment of young offenders to be studied by other United Kingdom Departments.

Mr. Alison

The Ramoan probation hostel/activity centre, which provides for alternating periods in residence and at home, is the first probation hostel of its kind in the United Kingdom. It has been developed by the Save the Children Fund and the Northern Ireland probation service and will operate initially for an experimental period of five years. The project will be monitored and evaluated and the results made available to other Government Departments.
