The Department's investment intentions survey covers manufacturers' investment which accounts for some 70 per cent. of investment by the index of production industries, excluding petroleum and natural gas. The survey published in January shows a likely 6 per cent to 10 per cent. fall in the volume of manufacturers' capital expenditure in 1980 compared with the level in 1979, which was much the same as in 1978.
