HC Deb 17 March 1980 vol 981 cc73-4W
Mr. Straw

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what information his Department collects on the provision of privately-rented residential accommodation.

Mr. Stanley

Information on the provision of privately-rented housing is derived from a number of sources. The most important regular sources are the decennial census of population and the general household survey whose results are published annually. The Department commissioned "Attitudes to Letting in 1976"—a survey of private landlords and tenants—and carried out the national dwelling and housing survey—NDHS—1977 which provides the most recent national statistical information on all housing tenures. The vacant property survey, which will be published shortly, and a survey of the private rented sector, which is not yet completed, have also been commissioned by the Department.

In addition information about rent registration is collected and published quarterly in "Housing and Construction Statistics".
