HL Deb 14 March 1980 vol 406 c1400WA
Lord BROCKWAY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What decision, if any, has been reached by the United Nations Human Rights Commission on the proposal that Governments should be asked to report on the abduction by Governments of political opponents: and what were the attitudes of the national representatives, including the British representative, to this proposal.

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN and COMMONWEALTH AFFAIRS (Lord Carrington)

The Commission adopted by consensus a resolution establishing a working group of five of its members to "examine the question of and cases of enforced or involuntary disappearances of persons". This resolution was warmly welcomed by the United Kingdom Representative, a copy of whose Statement has been placed in the Library.

House adjourned at twenty-four minutes before three o'clock.
