§ Mr. John Townend
asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in the light of the decision of the European Court of Justice that France, Italy and Denmark discriminate against Scotch whisky, what action he intends to take to secure the implementation of that decision.
§ Mr. Wiggin
It is for the member States concerned to take the necessary measures to give effect to the court's decisions and, as my right hon. Friend has already stated publicly, he looks to them speedily to do so. He has also notified the Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr. Gundelach, that should any member State fail to take the necessary measures, he will expect the Commission to carry out its responsibilities under the Treaty.
