HC Deb 13 March 1980 vol 980 cc710-1W
Mr. Concannon

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many former RAF houses at Rafborough and Pinehurst, Farnborough, have been sold or offered to the local council.

Mr. Pattie

None have been sold to the council, which was unable to accept a suggestion made in 1977 that it might purchase the houses subject to retention by the Department of certain nomination rights.

Mr. Concannon

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is his policy regarding the sale of former RAF houses.

Mr. Pattie

Houses surplus to Ministry of Defence requirements are passed to the Property Services Agency for disposal. Surplus houses for civilians, such as those on the RAE Farnborough estates at Rafborough and Pinehurst, would usually be offered first to the sitting tenants.

Mr. Concannon

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many houses are empty on the Royal Air Force estates at Rafborough and Pinehurst, Farnborough.

Mr. Pattie

Six.

Mr. Concannon

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what complaints he has received with regard to the maintenance and repair of Royal Air Force houses at Rafborough and Pinehurst, Farnborough.

Mr. Pattie

There have been regular complaints about the conditions of the houses and the speed with which maintenance services have been carried out. This will be the subject of further inquiry.
