HC Deb 13 March 1980 vol 980 cc648-9W
Mr. Flannery

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the distinction of records made by the police of information obtained from and concerning people detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act; whether these records are computerised; if so, on which system; who has access to this information and for what purposes; and whether these records will be destroyed when the Act ceases to have effect.

Mr. Brittan

Such records are kept by individual forces; some information is also held on the Metropolitan Police C Department computer; a limited number of police officers have access for operational purposes; destruction will depend on circumstances at the time.

Mr. Flannery

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what training is given to officers who interview people under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

Mr. Brittan

Such officers normally are trained detectives.
