HC Deb 13 March 1980 vol 980 c702W
42. Dr. David Clark

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received concerning the practice of harvesting antler velvet from live deer.

Mr. Wiggin

Representations have in the main been directed to the Farm Animal Welfare Council which has been asked to advise Ministers on this subject and which invited views from the principal interested organisations and from the public. I am advised that, of the 30 submissions to the council in which an opinion was expressed, 23 were against the harvesting of antlers in velvet from live deer and 7 were in favour.
