HC Deb 13 March 1980 vol 980 c703W
50. Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many of his Department's and Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland personnel are currently engaged in monitoring the landing in German, French, Dutch and Belgian ports of fish caught in the United Kingdom 200-mile limit zone.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

It is the responsibility of each member State of the EEC to monitor landings in its own ports. None of the staff of my Department nor of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland are directly engaged in monitoring such landings. However, our fishery protection forces keep foreign as well as United Kingdom fishing within our limits under surveillance; and, under the catch reporting arrangements agreed by the Council of Ministers on 29 January, we are due to receive monthly reports on the landings and transhipments recorded by other member States.
