HC Deb 13 March 1980 vol 980 c663W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the total annual yield that would be obtained from an accessions tax or inheritance tax, if the same rates of capital transfer tax currently payable by the donor (a) for life-time transfers and (b) for transfers on death, for each slice of charageable transfer, were paid by the donee on the accumulating transfers to him over his lifetime.

Mr. Peter Rees

No precise estimate is available, but the yield from either an accessions or an inheritance tax on the lines suggested by the hon. Member would certainly be very small.
