HC Deb 13 March 1980 vol 980 c712W
Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement regarding the present security arrangements for the British Army of the Rhine.

Mr. Hayhoe

The German police have increased their surveillance of married quarters areas. For our own part Service men and their families have been warned of the need for vigilance and have been reminded of the personal precautions they should take. Security at bases has been tightened, the frequency of Royal Military Police patrols of married quarters areas has been increased, and certain guards and patrols have been armed. It would not be helpful for me to give fuller details.
