Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will provide comparative figures for the pay of members of the Army and RAF and the other European NATO countries in a range of ranks.

Mr. Pym

[pursuant to his reply, 13 December 1979, c. 739–80]: The information requested is as follows:

awarded by his Department to Davra Textiles of South Shields have been withdrawn; and, if so, if he will make a statement;

(2) if he will list the contracts that have been awarded by his Department to Davra Textiles of South Shields.

Mr. Pattie

No contracts have been placed with this firm by the Ministry of Defence.

Dr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Defence when Davra Textiles of South Shields was last inspected in order to assess the suitability of its factory undertaking contract work from his Department.

Mr. Pattie

Davra Textiles Ltd. of South Shields was inspected to assess its suitability for work for the Ministry of Defence in September 1979. Various changes in the manufacturing capability of the firm since then have made it necessary to undertake a reassessment, and this will be carried out in the near future.
