§ 47. Mr. Beithasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he has now reconsidered his objections to proceeding with grant-aid under the Fisheries Act 1955 for improvements at 703W Amble harbour in advance of works on the North Pier breakwater.
§ Mr. Buchanan-SmithWe have considered this matter most carefully but have concluded that we cannot approve a grant under the Fisheries Act 1955 for works on the Fish Quay at Amble until there is an acceptable commitment to a satisfactory scheme for the North Pier breakwater. Officials of my Department are, however, maintaining close contact with officials in the other Government Departments who are involved in discussions about the works which may be undertaken to the breakwater.
