§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he is satisfied that there are sufficient opportunities for women teachers to return to work on a part-time basis after maternity leave; and if he will encourage local authorities to increase the number of part-time jobs for women teachers returning after maternity leave.
§ Dr. BoysonA teacher on maternity leave would normally be expected to return to a post broadly similar in all respects to the one she left; although a change may be negotiated if it is in the mutual interests of the teacher and the employing authority. The most satisfactory blend of full and part-time teaching staff is a matter for each authority to decide in the light of local circumstances.
§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) how many female teachers in part-time work indicate that they will be returning to work after maternity leave; and how many do so;
(2) how many female teachers in full-time work indicate that they will be 605W returning to work after maternity leave and how many do so on (a) a full-time basis and (b) a part-time basis.
