HC Deb 12 March 1980 vol 980 cc591-2W
Mr. Beaumont-Dark

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will consider making available long-term development aid for selected projects in the computer industry so as to bring the United Kingdom industry's potential into line with many of their international competitors and the support and encouragement they receive.

Mr. David Mitchell

[pursuant to his reply, 10 March 1980, c. 413]: The Department of Industry provides research and development assistance to the United Kingdom computer industry, principally under the terms of the 1965 Science and Technology Act, and we keep the need for and conditions of support under regular review.

Mr. Alan Williams

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether any offer of section 7 Industry Act regional aid has been offered to Inmos to persuade it to site its first manufacturing unit in Wales.

Mr. David Mitchell

[pursuant to his reply, 11 March 1980]: No application for regional selective assistance under section 7 of the Industry Act 1972 has been received from the company and therefore no offer of any such assistance has been made.
