HC Deb 11 March 1980 vol 980 cc536-7W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many police officers of the rank of inspector and above are wholly or mainly employed in the investigation of complaints against police; and what is the cost per annum.

Mr. Younger

A total of 20 officers of the rank of inspector or above are employed in two forces in Scotland on duties which are concerned with the investigation of complaints against the police and internal discipline investigations. The annual cost of employing them assuming maximum rent allowance but excluding overtime and overheads, is estimated to be about £210,000. Other forces have no full-time establishment for this work and employ officers of appropriate rank as required.
