HC Deb 07 March 1980 vol 980 c350W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Lord Privy Seal if, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Bath (Mr. Patten) on 13 February, in his consultations with other countries about the siting of the Olympic Games he will cease to propose any alteration to the planned venue of Moscow.

Mr. Luce

As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister told the chairman of the British Olympic Association in her letter of 22 February, the Government's advice to British athletes must be not to go to the Games in Moscow. Following the decision by the International Olympic Committee, there cannot be "Olympic" Games elsewhere, but the Government are continuing to examine with other interested Governments how far it would be possible to mount alternative events.
