HC Deb 07 March 1980 vol 980 c374W
Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will take steps to end European Economic Community discrimination against Scotch whisky imports.

Mr. Wiggin

My right hon. Friend will continue to seek action by the European Commission against discriminatory measures in other member States whenever these arise. We were delighted at the European Court's recent judgment on a number of cases involving such discrimination. We now look to the countries concerned to comply speedily with the judgment so that the Treaty of Rome can be respected and fair trading conditions can be established.
