Mr. John MacKay

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the staff representatives on the Whitley Council on the salaries of laboratory staff with their trade union affiliations.

Dr. Vaughan

Responsibility for negotiating the pay of medical laboratory scientific officers employed in the National Health Service lies with committee A of the Professional and Technical Staffs B Whitley Council. The staff side of that committee is composed as follows:

  • Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs: 6 representatives.
  • Confederation of Health Service Employees: 3 representatives.
  • National and Local Government Officers' Association: 3 representatives.
  • National Union of Public Employees: 3 representatives.

The staff side chairman and secretary are respectively Mrs. R. Lambie (COHSE), Mr. R. A. Bird (ASTMS).
