HC Deb 06 March 1980 vol 980 c287W
Mr. Butcher

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what retaliatory sanctions are available to Her Majesty's Government in response to proven cases of counterfeiting of automotive parts by Taiwanese manufacturers.

Mr. Parkinson

The importation of counterfeit goods from any country, contrary to the import prohibitions imposed by sections 16 and 17 of the Trade Descriptions Act 1968, is an offence under Customs legislation. Such goods would be liable to forfeiture.

Mr. Shersby

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will take steps to prevent the import of spare motor car parts from Taiwan and Korea purporting to be copies of genuine parts but which are substandard and may constitute a danger to motorists.

Mr. Parkinson

I shall reply to my bon. Friend as soon as possible.
