HC Deb 05 March 1980 vol 980 cc242-3W
Mr. Norman Atkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) to what alternative use the National Health Service intends to put the operating theatre at the Prince of Wales' hospital, London N.17, once it has been closed permanently to use by surgeons;

(2) if he will confirm the dates when the four new operating theatres and the four new X-ray rooms will be completed and ready for use at the St. Ann's hospital, London N.15:

(3) when the operating theatre at the Prince of Wales' hospital, London N.17, was first brought into operation; what was the cost; and on what date it is now proposed that it should be closed permanently;

(4) when he expects the North Middlesex hospital, London N.18, to be able to accept the additional patients diverted from the Prince of Wales' hospital, London N.17, following the closure there of the accident and emergency department;

(5) when he expects the building extensions and new facilities attached to the accident and emergency department at the North Middlesex hospital, London N.18, to be completed and ready for use;

(6) what is the annual anticipated cost saving likely to accrue from the closure of the accident and emergency department at the Prince of Wale's hospital, London N.17, when set against the capital works and extra cost of the additional beds, and so on, which must be provided at the North Middlesex hospital, London N.18, to accommodate the transferred patients.

Dr. Vaughan

I understand the Enfield and Haringey area health authority has issued a consultation document on the development of services in the Haringey district which includes these hospitals, and that the hon. Member has been sent a copy. At this stage the Department is not involved and I suggest that the hon. Member seeks the information he requires direct from the authority.
