HC Deb 03 March 1980 vol 980 cc15-6W
Mr. Field

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if vessels in which uranium hexofluoride and enriched uranium hexofluoride are carried would be able to withstand sabotage by terrorists using bazooka type anti-tank weapons.

Mr Norman Lamont

[pursuant to his reply, 25 February 1980, c. 437]: These substances are not like fuel which has been irradiated in a reactor. They are only lightly radioactive, and the hazard they present arises from their chemical toxicity. The containers used to transport them might be holed in the way suggested as might other containers used for the transport of other toxic chemical substances.
