Mr. John Townend

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what effect he estimates that the current delays in the registering

(2) if he is satisfied that existing provisions of the Companies Acts provided adequate safeguards against the misuse of nominee shareholdings in ways that circumvent other provisions of the Companies Acts.

These will be matters for consideration in the light of the reports of the inquiries now in train into the recent acquisition by de Beers Consolidated Mine of a substantial shareholding in Consolidated Gold Fields Ltd.
