§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeThe use of temporary spare tyres would at present generally be illegal. Tests carried out by the Transport and Road Research Laboratory show that the use of some types of temporary spare tyre adversely affects426W handling characteristics. We are discussing with other countries whether a standard for a safe temporary spare tyre can be devised. If it can, we will consider whether the law should be changed.
