§ Mr. Teddy Taylorasked the Lord Privy Seal what representations he has made to the European Economic Community 422W Commission on the sale of subsidised beef to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics; and if Her Majesty's Government have any control or influence on such sales in terms of the Treaty under which Great Britain became a member of the European Economic Community.
§ Sir Ian GilmourWe have pressed consistently for an end to all subsidised food exports to the USSR. We shall continue to do so. As a result of decisions taken by the Foreign Affairs Council on 15 January subsidised food exports to the Soviet Union, including beef exports, will not be permitted to exceed traditional levels. As from 21 June the Commission have decided, in accordance with this policy, that there will be no further commitments this year for export refunds on beef for the Soviet Union.
