§ Mr. John H. Osbornasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what recent discussions he has had with local industrial interests, including the chamber of commerce and chamber of trade, the Sheffield city council and the South Yorkshire council about the operation of an enterprise zone in the Sheffield area, bearing in mind the need to support existing industries, as well as providing opportunities for new commercial, industrial and retail activities; and what under- 440W taking must be given for such a zone to go forward.
§ Mr. FoxMy right hon. Friend met a delegation from Sheffield city council on 6 May. Discussions have also been held with South Yorkshire county council, and with the chamber of commerce and other private sector interests. The city council has now put forward proposals for an enterprise zone at Attercliffe. A decision will be related to the prospects for success for the prospective zones and the local need for assistance to stimulate greater economic activity.
