HC Deb 24 June 1980 vol 987 cc89-90W
52. Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he has received the open letter from the General and Municipal Workers Union southern district, sent to him by the hon. Member for Newham, North-West concerning an industrial dispute at the Royal Russell school, Coombe Road, Croydon; whether the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service has taken or intends taking action to resolve this dispute; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Mayhew

My right hon. Friend has received a copy of the open letter to which the hon. Member refers. I understand that the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service issued a report on the union recognition claim in February and that, since then, neither the union nor the employer has approached ACAS.
