HC Deb 24 June 1980 vol 987 c148W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if the Committee on Safety of Medicines discusses each individual adverse report.

Dr. Vaughan

Each individual report is studied on the committee's behalf by its professional medical assessors. Summaries of reports of particular interest and of those on which action may be recommended are drawn to the committee's attention.

Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if Provera Medroxyprogesterone acetate 5 mg. tablets are still licensed for use in cases of habitual and threatened abortion due to progesterone deficiency.

Dr. Vaughan

Yes.

Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what drugs are currently licensed by the Committee on Safety of Medicines for use in cases of habitual and threatened abortion; if any of these drugs are progestogens; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Vaughan

Our records show that the following products are licensed for use in the treatment of habitual and threatened abortions:

  • Duphaston tablets
  • Gestanin tablets
  • Gestone Injection
  • Gonadotiophon LH
  • Progesterone implants
  • Proluton Depot
  • Provera tablets 5mg.
  • Vita-E tablets and capsules

Of the above, all but Gonadotiophon LH and Vita-E tablets contain a progestogen.
