Mr. Gummerasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will withhold consent for the building of the Sizewell B power station until he is satisfied that the Central Electricity Generating Board intends to make adequate recompense to the Suffolk county council and the Suffolk coastal district council for any additional, if temporary, costs for education and housing incurred by them.
§ Mr. Norman LamontI assume that my hon. Friend is referring to the possibility that the CEGB may, in due course, apply for my consent to construct a PWR power station at Sizewell. No application has been made to me but when, or if, the board applies all relevant matters will be considered. I have already announced that a public inquiry will be held into the siting of the first PWR.
