§ Mr. BrittanVisits to inmates at the remand centre were delayed as a result of industrial action taken by members of the Prison Officers' Association at Ashford. The staff held an unofficial meeting at 1.30 pm and prevented visits from starting at the proper time. The staff action was taken in the knowledge that the afternoon routine for inmates and visitors would be seriously affected. Visitors waiting to enter the remand centre were seen by an assistant governor and the situation explained to them.
