§ Mr. Joseph Deanasked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what is the number of jobs lost in the wool manufacturing industry in the Leeds travel-to-work area over the last 12 months ;
(2) what is the number of jobs lost in the engineering industry in the Leeds travel-to-work area over the last 12 months;
(3) what is the number of jobs lost in the clothing manufacturing industry in the Leeds travel-to-work area over the last 12 months.
§ Mr. Jim LesterThis Department does not have information about job losses or job gains. For Great Britain as a whole and the regions an indication of the net change can be obtained by comparing levels of employment at different dates but for local areas these estimates are available only from the census of employment and the latest information relates to June 1977.
However, I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that it has been notified of redundancies due to occur in the Leeds travel-to-work area between June 1979 and May 1980 as follows :
