HC Deb 16 June 1980 vol 986 cc411-2W
Dr. Summerskill

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will arrange for his Department to assist those who will be made redundant at the Dean Clough mills of Carpets International (Northern) to find alternative employment, following the end of the temporary short-time working compensation scheme.

Mr. Jim Lester

The firm may claim payments under the short time working compensation scheme for a maximum period of six months, which finished on 1 June 1980.

I understand from the Manpower Services Commission that the firm is proposing voluntary redundancies. The facilities of the MSC by way of advice and information about alternative employment opportunities, facilities for training and retraining, and the grants and allowances payable to those willing to take up employment in other areas are available to those who require assistance.
