HC Deb 02 June 1980 vol 985 c540W
Mr. Marks

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many applications for school closures and reorganisation are at present with his Department; and what steps he is taking to expedite their consideration.

Dr. Boyson

185 proposals made under section 13 of the Education Act 1944 are with the Department, including those relating to the closing or reorganisation of schools. I am satisfied that decisions are taken as quickly as possible. The length of time required varies with each proposal and depends, among other things, on its complexity and on the need to consider carefully all relevant factors, including the substance and volume of objections received.
