§ 20. Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give for the longest and most convenient stated period of time details of the extent to which publicly-funded persons or organisations in the service of the public, such as the Crown Agents or the Clegg Commission have, by wrong information, neglect, maladministration, or for other stated reasons, lost moneys to the Exchequer or cost taxpayers extra money, and what was the amount of money in each instance.
§ Mr. LawsonUnder arrangements agreed with the Public Accounts Committee, losses to the Exchequer attributable to the sort of reasons referred to by the hon. Member are brought to the attention of Parliament by way of notes to the Annual Appropriation and White Paper Accounts. These accounts may be reported on by the Public Accounts Committee on the basis of reports by the Comptroller and Auditor General. In addition the elimination of wasteful 525W expenditure more widely has been a central theme of the Committee's work for many years.
The honl Member may also find material relevant to his question in the reports of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration.
