HC Deb 02 June 1980 vol 985 cc523-4W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (1) if, having regard to the practical difficulties of reference usage and the conservation problems of damage in transfer when staff and material of the British library are scattered over 18 buildings in central London, he will make a speedy decision upon the future site of the new British library;

(2) if, since modern information retrieval techniques will inevitably increase demand for printed material from the British library, he will make an urgent decision on the new British library site;

(3) if, in view of the fact that the Science reference library is presently split between five sites with consequent difficulties for the companies, organisations and individuals who use this service, he will make an urgent decision on the siting of the new British library building.

Mr. St. John-Stevas

I am still reviewing the project for a new building on the Euston Road site, and will make an announcement as soon as possible.
