asked the Minister of Transport, in the light of his reply to the hon. Member for Louth on 6 December 1979, when he now expects to make an announcement about the preferred route for the Louth bypass.

I am sorry that it is taking longer than expected to complete our response to public consultation. Although this scheme is one on which preparation work is to be temporarily suspended, I realise the importance of announcing a preferred route so as to dispel uncertainty. I hope to be able to do so during the autumn.
