asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many families in the East Midlands and East Anglia social security administration region receive family income supplement; how many children are in the families; and how many are one-parent families at the latest date for which figures are available.

The latest date for which information is available is March 1980. There were 8,630 families, containing 19,360 children, in receipt of family income supplement in the East Midlands and East Anglia region. The number of one-parent families was 4,480, and they contained 7,550 children.
