The Government's proposals for an urban development corporation for the disused docks areas of Merseyside should bring particular benefits to the construction industry in the area.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what plans the Government have to seek to reduce unemployment among school leavers on Merseyside.

The Government's economic policies are designed to bring down inflation and create an economic climate in which investment and growth will create more jobs. In the meantime, the Government have agreed to expand the youth opportunities programme on Merseyside by 25 per cent. in 1980–81.
