HC Deb 22 July 1980 vol 989 c157W
19. Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many young persons are registered as unemployed in the South Yorkshire employment exchanges at the latest available date; and what is the number of vacancies in the area.

Mr. Jim Lester

At 10 April, the latest date for which the quarterly age analysis of the unemployed is available, the number of young people under 20 years of age registered as unemployed in the South Yorkshire metropolitan county was 8,154.

At 4 April the numbers of notified vacancies remaining unfilled at careers offices was 447. In addition, there were 1,723 vacancies at employment offices, some of which may have been suitable for people in this age group.
