For this reason, I have set up a supply council as a special health authority to support health authorities in their drive to secure better value for money in the procurement of supplies and so free resources for the direct care of patients. I am confident that the supply council's decisions will earn, as well as command, acceptance and will be acted upon throughout the NHS.
