§ 15. Mr. John Carlisleasked the Secretary of State for Employment what representations he has received over the adequacy of the provisions of the Employment Bill that pertain to the closed shop.
§ Mr. MayhewThe Government have held widespread consultations during the preparation of the Employment Bill, and drew up the provisions on the closed shop in the light of these. Representations from a number of interested parties about the different clauses of the Bill which concern the closed shop have been received whilst the Bill has been before Parliament.
§ 27. Mr. Peter Bottomleyasked the Secretary of State for Employment when he expects the provisions in the Employment Bill to come into effect.
§ 41. Dr. Mawhinneyasked the Secretary of State for Employment when he expects the provisions of the Employment Bill to come into effect.
§ Mr. MayhewI hope that the Bill will receive Royal Assent at the end of this month or early in August. The various 157W provisions of the Bill will be brought into effect as soon as practicable thereafter.

§ Mr. MayhewThe various provisions of the Employment Bill were the subject of extensive consultations with a large number of employers' organisations. The CBI and the EEF have recently commented that they hope the Bill will be enacted swiftly in its present form.
