HL Deb 21 July 1980 vol 412 c188WA
Lord McNAIR

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will make a special contribution to the funds of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) in order to avert the imminent closure of the UNRWA schools in Syria and Jordan.

Lord CARRINGTON

We were already the third largest donor to the Agency last year, not counting our contribution through the Community, and this year we have already promised £4.5 million towards the budget. We are hopeful that contributions from other Governments, which have not yet made pledges for 1980 according to their means, will avert the risk that the schools might have to close at the end of September.

House adjourned at twenty-seven minutes before twelve o'clock.
